Six Flags Over Georgia in Disney Water Theme Parks Directory

Six Flags Over Georgia was the second of only three of the original Six Flags parks to be built from the ground up as a Six Flags park built just seven years after Six Flags Over Texas at a cost of $12 million. Outside of Six Flags Over Texas, Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags St. Louis, the rest of the Six Flags parks were bought and later added to the chain. After opening Six Flags Over Texas in 1961, Angus Wynne, Six Flags founder, sold Six Flags to Penn Central Railroad Corporation in 1965 and Six Flags has been owned by various companies since including Time Warner and Bally Manufacturing, among many others. Six Flags over Georgia got its name and its six original themes from the six flags that flew over Georgia throughout its history. The six original themed areas were the Georgia area, British area, Spanish area now Bugs Bunnys World, Confederate area, French area and the USA area. The Cotton States Exposition area, Lickskillet area, Jolly Rogers Island area now Gotham City and Carousel Hill were added after park opening. Six Flags Over Georgia is owned only in part by Six Flags so as a result recieves alot of investment each year Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags Over Texas are the only Six Flags parks that have a limited investor partnership, meaning the financial investments are mainly decided upon by investors, while Six Flags Inc. handles the daily operation of the parks. Six Flags Over Georgia was built throughout the mid 1960s and opened its gates for the first time on June 7, 1967 with $2.75 admission admission is now $49.99 a 94 increase from 1967. Through time, Six Flags Over Georgia has changed drastically with updates and removals of popluar rides, attractions and areas throughout the park. Although through the years, one thing has remained the same: Six Flags Over Georgias commitment to family fun, which has been its mission season after season since opening day. Six Flags Over Georgia is considered to be one of the best Six Flags theme parks to date, with an extensive and innovative history of rides, attractions and shows.
