Eleven years ago I almost went on a trip to Denmark and the Netherlands to be introduced to my wifes relatives. That trip, longplanned though it was, was derailed by the birth of our son Loren. What with one thing and another eleven years slipped by before we managed to reschedule the trip and the introductions, and in the meantime an additional destination or two were added to the agenda. So in July 1996 the three of us set off to see various Dutch and Danish relatives and the birthplace of historys greatest building toy Billund, Denmark. You may recall that my wife Ellen claims to have the oldest collection of Lego on the net, started in the late 1950s courtesy of annual Christmas packages from some of these same Danish relatives we were to visit. I was a relatively late starter, since my earliest Lego sets date back only to about 1963. Loren, of course, has grown up with Lego of all flavors. So all three of us were looking forward with great anticipation to seeing Legoland.
